binodal training seasons

I have found success in the binodal training season. It involves two major events - one early, and one late. The early one is there to blow out the proverbial cobwebs. It is to remind the body that life is not easy. There are trials ahead, and this is just a little glimpse of what's coming. So you'd better get ready. This year, that came in the form of a 157-mile bike ride on April 3.

To capitalize on this early-season event, I think it important to go in just a little bit cold...in other words, it's early-season, so you're not totally prepared. But you do it, with your sights set on the second event - which is the A race of the season. For me, that doesn't come until November. Ironman Arizona. Now, the real miles begin. And my body is ready, in no small part because I gave it a little taste of the pain...

Re: May 2009

Thanks D, I am always relieved of stress everytime I think of the amazing support God has provided to me. I think that, in many ways, the not knowing is what brings the stress. The funny thing is that I don't really care about the job, house, cars, toys etc, they can all go, I worry about providing stability for my family, which I know comes from God anyway, so why stress? I suppose because everyone else is. I smile. Running good tempos lately. Cranking sub 7 minute miles on a few 7+ milers and many have been on tough terrain, feeling fresher but still sluggish the first few miles (perhaps age beginning to make me aware?) Looking forward to summer and time to focus on my own training rather than track or cross country, as of yesterday my team is leading the regional meet and my runners are at peak performance and qualifying for state right and left (girls 4X800 has the 2nd fastest time in the state so far 9:52) I feel good about it.
MUCH LOVE,
Geoff

April 28, May 1, 6-7

didn't mention april 28 - swam 3000, biked 10, ran 5
May 1 - ran a 17:40 5k (although i think the course measures short, about 3 miles instead of 3.1 - which gives an equivalent 18:15 or so), good enough for 2nd overall in the race out of 86 males, beat all 96 females. i was stoked with that! in the same race, marria finished 30th out of the 96 females - way to go Marria!
May 6 - biked 8, ran 6
May 7 - biked 24 so far...no further plans as Asher has a baseball game tonight.
Geoff, I'm serious with that offer. and i understand the stress. i want to be sure you know that i only offer that because i may need you to return the favor someday! (and because i love you)

way to go to your girls team! peace and love to you and yours!

Re: May 2009

Had a few good runs in the last week, weight is down to a good # and speed seems to be coming too. Tempos are the name of the game right now, 7 minutes per mile twice a week 7 - 10 miles each. Tough the first few miles, but sometimes it even feels slow the last few even when I am picking up the pace. Good news I think. State meet starts tonight and ends Saturday, looking forward to the end.
MUCH LOVE,
Geoff
