I guess this entry is overdue. I'm keeping up okay with my training, but have neglected to log it.
A log is a great way to make sure you get things done. It is back-end accountability and also provides a great history. I marvel to think that every workout I've done over the last 5+ years is logged on this site. And now a few others have a record, too. We're accountable to each other to show up from time to time; we wonder about each other if we're absent for an extended period.
So sorry for the overdue post. I'm back on track.
March 24 swam 2000
March 25 swam 3000
March 30 biked 8
March 31 biked 8, ran 5k
April 2 swam 2000 easy
April 3 biked 157
the above was supposed to be the first leg of the Fayetteville Double. the family bailed on me, so we didn't ride to fayetteville - me and a buddy just rode a big loop around central arkansas. it was nice. and tiring. but then i've been working like a dog in the yard every day since. so i must be okay.
casey, you make a decision yet on charlottesville? geoff, get that sub-5 yet?
canoed 9 (MAN Weekend 2009)
Oh the sub 5... Nope. The day I ran for it it was super windy. 35mph with gusts near 50. Also it was an open mile for the community so it was a packed track, young kids and all so I was constantly on the outside passing (not that that slowed down the guy who won in 4:35. I ran a respectable 5:11. 3 seconds per lap, seems so small but man that is tough. I am now looking to simply increase my fitness as I enter the summer season, I will be trying again for a sub 5 in June, this way I can get in some speed work as with track I end up yelling (encouragement) at the kids rather than running, makes it tough to improve. I am running, at an acceptable weight, with a happy face. MUCH LOVE,
Geoff
Not doing Charlottesville. I'll jog with Kyle as he does the half. My motivation is completely gone. I went out for an easy 5 on Sunday for my first and only run in a week and a half. Disney/Universal was draining and jam-packed. I'm planning to run some trails and hope that brings back my motivation.
Been kind of spotty lately, with the meet schedule picking up I get less running time and more coaching. Had a recommitment to my core, day six and my abs still ache, must be good. Hope to maintain till mid May, when the season ends and explode for the summer. By the way, went 6 today in 49 minutes and it was 102 degrees, should have had more water...
MUCH LOVE,
Geoff
after MAN weekend, finished up a bunch of home project stuff and have had 2 VERY hectic work weeks. thus, only managed 6 hours downhill skiing at Vail, 2 runs of 4 and 7 miles, and one bike ride of 12 miles. pathetic. now, Marria is out of town, so I shan't be getting much training in until next week. se la vi. i'm considering this all recovery from the 157-mile bike ride...about 3 weeks' recovery seems right... i'm feeling the twitching of the legs indicating a willingness to get back in the saddle, though. much love to all and kyle, too!
Sounds like man weekend was a success, I am always thankful for good ideas even when I am not able to participate. Been running 4 or 5 days a week, just seem really busy. Stress is weighing a bit as I begin searching for a new job for the first time in 6 years, yuck. But generally I am doing alright, feeling fit if not fast, the core work paying off as I can do it in 20 minutes on the floor while Sophia smiles at me or Riley jumps on my "tummy." Reminds me that health and family, gifts of God, remain to be at the center of my life. Good friends too!
MUCH LOVE,
Geoff
