Boston is here this month. Rock and Roll. How's training?
I have been training. pretty significantly, despite physical ailments. Gotten a long run over 10 miles in, as well as many shorter runs and 2 track workouts. some cycling, and one swim.
has anyone ever had a hemorrhoid? they are the most humbling ailment. there i said it.
i also have a broken neck. no one believes me, but i believe me. i had my second event where my entire back just locks up on me. focuses the pain in my neck. i ran into a support column playing basketball and have not been the same since. but i didn't let it stall me out for even one day. that happened sunday morning the 30th.
30th-ran 6
31st - ran 5
1st - ran 7 and cycled 10
2nd - cycled 10 and ran 7 on track, 4x800 @ 2:45
3rd - ran 5
tomorrow - who knows? i'd like to have one 15-mile+ run before boston.
pray for the Naugher family of north little rock ecclesia today. their son, david died today. they are truly the sweetest folks around...
much love to all, and be well.
Man, you're a big ol' mess. I hope the neck is just a pinched nerve. As for the H, I hope it's not too dibilitating. We're off for our week on St. John starting tomorrow...heat training!!
Whoa. Just coming on to post some smack . . . That hit me like a ton of bricks about David! He was childhood friend of Martie's and mine. Getting ready to call her. Please keep us posted.

How's the neck? It's almost the big day!
The marathon is Saturday so, naturally, I woke up with a cold and fever yesterday. Still have it this morning. I had a doctor appt yesterday anyway, and he told me I can run as long as my temp is below 100.5. That's right about where it's hanging, and I wouldn't care to run the way I feel, anyway. Unless this breaks soon, I've got to find a backup race.
CONGRATULATIONS!!! Your finish time is my goal! Amazing, considering how your last few weeks have been. Very cool.
I got sidelined by the virus. 102 Friday night. Normal Saturday morning (!!!), but a doctor at the start said not to try it. He was right. Felt OK all day, with no fever, but woke up Sunday with practically a goiter hanging off my neck. Just as bad this morning, but a doc says it's probably just an over-reaction by my lymph system. Follow-up next Wednesday.
Meanwhile, I've found a backup marathon in Greensboro on 5/3. But how do I train?!?!?
So Dyron, now the question is...what are you going to do next?
Oh, and congratulations also to Shannon, Lauren and Becky for their great 1/2 marathons.
I agree! It was great to see Becky out there. She took a "woods" stop with Lauren and I! We're already booked for next year-what a BEAUTIFUL course. And thanks, Casey, for being the best medal-passer-outer ever :-) Let me know if you need a training schedule from my running coach (USATF and Olympic Certification). I'm sure you'll be ready. I got the Boston athlete tracker hooked up to my classroom T.V. My fifth graders and I had so much fun watching Dyron's splits/progress! Especially with the neck/back business, I am SO, SO, SO, SO proud of this PR.
Hey Shannon, any suggestions you coach has would be much appreciated. I ran 3 easy miles yesterday, but then my temp went up again until about midnight when I woke up sweating like crazy. I don't feel too bad today, but I'm not going to run. Still have this tumor on my neck.
We're on the 3 day/week plan. Saturday 4/26: 18 miles, Tuesday 4/29: 5 miles negative split, Thursday 5/1: 4 miles tempo pace. Friday: rest and hydrate. I know you rack up a lot of mileage. This is what she had the girls do one week out from Charlottesville. If it fits your style, use it! Definitely rest up and take care of those lymphs first and foremost!!!!!
So I've decided against Greensboro. I was finally back to full strength yesterday, but who knows where my endurance is now. I lost my motivation over 10+ days of feeling weak, and I don't want to spend the travel and registration money to possibly find out I'd lost my edge. So now I'm aiming for the 25K at the Great Eastern Endurance Run, 9/22. Then Richmond again. Seems like a long time between races.
I am beginning my fourth week of regular running. Constant constant effort is my goal
