the running bug

Indications are, personal running is down for the erstwhile participants of this blog.

But how is the running bug doing in your area? Have you infected those around you, so that the bug lives on? Infection usually occurs as a result of intimate contact with a carrier of the disease; usually while the carrier is exhibiting active symptoms.

The virus is alive and well at the Hamlins, where yesterday, I told Marria, "you're the runner in this family now," as she headed out for an hour-long run, while I minded the homestead. I've successfully passed on this contagious disease of healthiness. Thus, the amount of running overall in my area has increased due to broader participation. And I've a mind to infect many more...

...maybe by doing so, I'll have to go through another bout of my own!

February 4

ran 30 minutes last night. it was a spiritual experience.

Feb. 5, and this is the first comment of the month. I lamented to P-diddy about this last night, and he said he'd post.

I imagine Brick is coming here from time to time, cursing my inactivity and calling me all sorts of names.

Time to start on the goal of qualifying for Boston at Boston...

Re: February 2008

re. the bug: So far . . . NINE of my students have registered for their first kids triathlon 5/31/08. We are already making posters :-) One of my kid's parents just joined TriGirl. ELEVEN of my kids are doing either the Market Mile or Monument Avenue 10K. Trying to get my entire class in on the Autism 5K . . . I love the bug.

shash - way to GO on the bug. you are an inspiration to many, and you should be proud. i know i'm proud of you!

how about you other slackers? i mean, you can't be making up for your lack of infecting by your own training, you pathetic maggots!!!

now get up off your lazy arses and hit the road!!! start losing those l-b-s today, pray while you run and go ahead and improve yourself while you're at it!

February 9

ran 7, got lost in the woods.

now i have a huge neckache, inflicted yesterday playing basketball, probably a result of a game a couple weeks ago when I scored and ran into a padded column just past the basket (it was an unfamiliar venue).

now I'm faced with this: which came first, the chicken or the egg? is my neck sore because my back is seized up, or is my back seized up because i'm compensating for the problems in my neck?

and what does everyone think of chiropractors?

Re: February 2008

Yeah, I know... I am worthless and weak. But I am going to lay out the excuse anyway... I got sick, and have had it for over a month. So I have done very little. I have run a total of 20 miles + or - in the last month, and spent 3 hours on the bike. I have gone cross country skiing twice for 3 hours each but nothing else. But I am still here and letting my agrivation motivate me, as well as D's consistantcy. I will be back at it, starting now.
MUCH LOVE,
Geoff

Here's to Boston @ Boston....

p.s. - don't let the snooze button win the battle!

February 16-20

February 16 - played 1.5 hrs basketball
February 17 - played 1 hour basketball
February 18 - played 1 hour basketball
February 19 - ran 6.2, played 1.5 hrs basketball
February 20 - ran 5 with Marria.

Today, nothing so far. I was seriously down on my back for about 1 week, then came back with basketball instead of running. was hurting pretty bad again last night, but peppermint essential oil seems to have done the trick.

working up now until the Fayetteville Double weekend, which is looking more and more like a solo effort. Fine. Be that way.

To make this site more relevant, given the upcoming conclusion of the personal goal of BQ, I have changed the name of the blog. It is now Dyronman's Smack Talk Training Blog. There is no particular goal. More people are invited to boast of their activities. It's live and in concert at http://www.dyronman.com/training.

first boast

I LOVE THE FACT THAT THE FIRST BOAST ON THIS BLOG IS FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS COMPLETED AN IRONMAN WHO THINKS OF THEMSELVES AS FAT AND LAZY@!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that shows the caliber of people we're interested in being...

never satisfied with the status quo...

always interested in self-improvement...

i may just do my first late-night run of the season tonight.

thanks for the inspiration, carc

Re: February 2008

Ran 18 on Saturday on the marathon course. Took me 9 to warm up and speed up. Feeling pretty good. Looking at my schedule, that really should have been my first 20.

Where's your distance, Dyron? How are you going to come anywhere close to requalifying at Boston? Less than 7 weeks to go.

Re: February 2008

Ok, I have actually been hard at it, ran 5 today, working on consistancy I have to start again at a moderate distance, and did a tough ab and core workout. Doing the 5 and workout deal Monday, Wendsnesday, Friday, then either longer 6-9, or faster 6:30 pace or better for 3-5, on the off days. I try to double on Saturdays and Sundays on the bike. Weather is AWESOME here... highs of about 80. I love the AZ weather! D - come on dude , KO the Boston time and I will meet you there next year. I plan on doing 2 marathons this year plus the Soma 1/2 Iron in Oct. It is supposed to be among the best 1/2s in the country if you are looking for something to fill the schedule, that goes for anyone else who may be interested...
MUCH LOVE,
Geoff
