So what is the plan now? Boston 2008 remains a possibility for some, and is a reality for some. Does the name of the blog need to change? I think so. I'm working on it, and taking suggestions.
The training blog is a good concept. And I'm not sure how many are even out there...maybe we're onto something? I like how we can prod one another into activity through encouragement, and more importantly, smack-talk.
So here's the plan for 2008: if a person doesn't post a whole bunch of activity that pushes their limits, that demonstrates they are challenging themselves at ever-higher levels of effort,
then the others will make fun of that person mercilessly. All year long.
So for now, I'm leaving the "Boston 2008" prefix to the blog title. But come April 22 (because I'll be too tired April 21), it's going down in favor of a more universal title...
ran 5 & 6. 2nd one was with Asher riding his bike, we explored a new lake they're building in Maumelle. Looks nice.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!!
Thought you might all be interested to see the blog activity since its inception in November 2004. We've come a long way! We've had our ups and downs.
The chart simply shows number of comments and a quarterly rolling average. Enjoy!

And in the spirit of increasing the smack-talk, let me point out, Dyron, that you seem to have too much time on your hands.
I'm joining a group training for 3:20s at Boston, though my race will be here in Charlottesville that same weekend...a much tougher course.
7: ran 5 at lunch
8: played 2 rounds basketball. i think my legs need the beating inflicted by hoops.
i have had a little too much time on my hands recently...and not enough training. pushed dangerously close to 190 lbs recently, so have started with a new sense of urgency...
seems everyone is ashamed of their holiday weight, which may be taking a little longer to lose than they'd anticipated...
I ran 2 miles yesterday, and played 1 hour basketball in the middle.
Also played basketball a total of 4 hours this past week. it's basketball season.
running begins this week. basketball continues.
the weight is coming off, and i don't care who knows it...
On Saturday, I ran 16 miles, alternating 2 miles hard and a 1/2 mile easy. I ended up pushing harder than I had planned, and averaged a 7:30 pace. Then painted the living room.
15: played 2 hours basketball.
16: swam 3,000 yards.
casey, nice job. i'd say it was just another average workout, but guys like us being associated with the sad likes of geoff, p-diddy, btb-beeler, and carmen makes it seem like a way-above-average workout.
here's a big Thanks to those other erstwhile members of this blog for bringing that average WAY down, and making me and casey feel GREAT! really. you guys are too kind.
ive always considered it one of my strengths...

17: played ~0.5 hours hoops
18: swam 3,500
20: received the NICEST gift as congrats for BQ from the Beelers - a gift basket of caloric goodness. The Beelers make me feel not-nice, yet so-thankful, so-humble.
21: consumed most of gift basket contents.
you have to fuel before your activities, to make sure you have energy. plus, the 2nd Annual Fayetteville Double is looming, and it's best to have good fat reserves (and the ability to tap into them) prior to attempting it. I'm going to practice by building up a HUGE fat reserve, then slowly depleting it through exercise, with my lowest weight occurring just prior to Boston. Carb up, run sub 3:10:59.
plans, plans, plan.
but no hating. good advice, c-man
played 1.5 hours of basketball each day.
ankles and feet continue to suffer at a higher rate than is usual. feeling myself getting a little out-of-shape, especially since I'm gassed after a few series with no rest, just running up and down the court.
still convinced that this is great cross-training preparation for boston.
ho hum, no one else is exercising?
despite my drop in activity, my weight last night was 180.0. probably not a good sign re: muscle mass.
also, feeling guilty for saying that i was going to start running 2 weeks ago. as preston has said, no more talk about what i'm GOING to do. only DOING.
Dropping my running too much has always made me nervous. I'd rather keep my conditioning that have to get it back, so I've kept my Saturday long runs at about 16. My mid-week runs, on the other hand, have suffered lately, so I've only been totaling about 30 a week.
My long runs have been 2 or 3 mile intervals at a little better than goal pace, with 1/2 mile breaks at just under goal pace. I think I'll just hit the trail for a couple of hours tomorrow, though; I've been missing it.
